Elisabeth W. Tavárez
Special Assistant to the President
Elisabeth Tavárez joined Marist College in 2005 as Special Assistant to the President. In this capacity, she is responsible for a broad and complex set of assignments, including in-depth research on key issues, establishing priorities and agendas, evaluating information and preparing materials for use by the President, and special assigned projects. Elisabeth serves as the President’s principal writer, preparing his strategic communications, position papers, reports, public presentations, and campus communications. She is also a liaison on behalf of the President with senior-level constituents both on- and off-campus. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, Elisabeth participates in high-level policy discussions and manages relationships with other offices.
Elisabeth’s background is as a communications professional in the financial services industry, having had extensive experience in project management, research, and report writing. Prior to joining Marist, she was assistant vice president for shareholder communications at J. & W. Seligman & Co., an investment management firm in New York City, where she was responsible for the content and production of the firm’s annual, semiannual, and quarterly shareholder reports. She also directed marketing and communication efforts at Greenrock Research, a financial services company in Chicago. In the academic arena, Elisabeth served as the research assistant for a University of Chicago doctoral dissertation in Oaxaca and Mexico City, Mexico, and taught English at the Wall Street Institute in Seville, Spain and Paris, France.
Elisabeth received a B.A. cum laude from Harvard College and an M.A. in Communication from Marist. She completed the Management Development Program at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, and is also bilingual English/Spanish. She has presented at numerous academic and professional conferences. In the community, Elisabeth serves on the Board of Directors of the Dutchess County SPCA and on the Executive and Schools Committees of the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of the Hudson Valley. Elisabeth resides in Rhinebeck, New York with her husband David, their daughter Eva, and mixed-breed dog Shayna.
