Program Location

As a major economic center with a diverse culture, London offers students excellent opportunities that can fit almost any major.  FIE programs for study abroad in London are held at the Foundation House Study Center in the heart of the city’s Kensington district which is in close proximity to cultural institutions like Royal Albert Hall, King’s Road, or Hyde Park.  Foundation House is the main administrative site for FIE’s classrooms, staff offices, student lounges.  Metrogate House also includes classrooms, a common area, a study lab, and residential facilities for students.

Institution

FIE: Foundation for International Education is a London-based non-profit educational organization, providing customized partnership programs and individual student enrollment programs in London, Dublin, and Amman for undergraduate students.  Students from over 50 US colleges and universities attend FIE study abroad programs

Academics

Students participating on the FIE London program combine studies with a required internship experience.  Internship placements are with small- or mid-sized companies based in London that best match the skills and interests of students.  Classes are taught by British faculty.

  • Students enroll in a “Key Course” which contextualizes students’ experience in London (i.e., “British Life and Business”, or “British Life and Cultures”, etc.).
  • Elective courses available to students engage topics connected with the arts, politics, global business, or global studies.  Students enroll in 2 for the semester.
  • The required internship is organized by FIE and is combined with the International Internship Course (IIC) designed to mentor and support students through this experience.

Note: an internship in the field of psychology will be for elective credits only. Marist participants on this program can not receive PSYC 487 or PSYC 488 Fieldwork credits for the London internship.

Student Life & Co-curricular Content

FIE’s Student Life Team supports students through offering support, organizing field trips or study tours, and other types of social and academic programs that draw on the breadth of resources and attractions that London has to offer.  These activities are designed to complement students’ coursework.  Students participating on the program also undergo a comprehensive orientation shortly after arrival, and are given regular updates on events happening in and around the city.

Housing

FIE offers students a range of housing options, and residencies are either a short walk or Tube (subway) ride away from Foundation House.  Students typically live in double, triple, or quad rooms that are fully furnished.  Common kitchens are fully equipped, and all residences have common living areas where students can interact.

Program Cost

The program fee includes tuition (12-16 credits), accommodations, program orientation, internship placement and support, London Tube passes (Zones 1&2), course-related co-curricular activities, and GeoBlue health insurance.
