Tutoring / Proofreading Informational Meeting

Tutor Training Workshops (Attendance Required at all Sessions)

Session 1

September 10th, 2014 at 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Donnelly 237

This session will cover the concepts and goals of tutoring. The qualities and characteristics of a good tutor and the mutual expectations and responsibilities of the tutor and tutees will be discussed.  General guidelines for tutoring and planning the first tutoring session will be covered.  The resources available on the ALC website will also be viewed. 

Session 2

September 17th, 2014 at 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Donnelly 237

Learning styles and methods of instruction, study skills, test taking skills suggestions for improving the writing process and dealing with tutoring problems be presented.  Different methods of tutoring will be presented and tutors will also participate in a mock tutoring session.  Tutor applications will be completed.

Session 3

September 24th, 2014 at 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Donnelly 237

Representatives from HEOP, Special Services and McCann will be introduced to the new tutors and proofreaders and will present important aspects of their programs.  The business aspects of the tutoring program will be presented. New student workers will fill out the necessary forms for payroll.  Payroll time-sheets and tutor training evaluation forms will also be completed.

 

Proofreaders Training Only

October 1st, 2014 from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Donnelly 237 (All new proofreaders must attend.)

October 15th, 2014 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in Donnelly 237
