Tutor Training Workshops (Attendance Required at all Sessions)
Session 1
January 30th, 2013 at 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Lowell Thomas 021
This session will cover the concepts and goals of tutoring. The qualities and characteristics of a good tutor and the mutual expectations and responsibilities of the tutor and tutees will be discussed. The business aspects of the tutoring program will be presented. New tutors and proofreaders will fill out the necessary forms for payroll.
Session 2
February 6th, 2013 at 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Lowell Thomas 021
Representatives from HEOP, Special Services and McCann will be introduced to the new tutors and proofreaders and will present important aspects of their programs. General guidelines for tutoring and planning the first tutoring session will be covered. The tutors will participate in a mock session. Different methods of tutoring will be presented. Tutor applications will be completed.
Session 3
February 13th, 2013 at 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Lowell Thomas 021
Learning styles and methods of instruction, study skills, test taking skills suggestions for improving the writing process and dealing with tutoring problems be presented. The resources available on the ALC website will be viewed. Payroll timesheets and tutor training evaluation forms completed.
Proofreaders Training Only
February 20th, 2013 from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Lowell Thomas 021 (All new proofreaders must attend.)
