The 2013 Mid-Hudson Regional Business Plan Competition
The first annual Mid-Hudson Regional Business Plan Competition will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Marist College in the Hancock Center. Each of the 10 major regions throughout New York State will be hosting a semi-final competition. The top teams from each of the semi-final events will then be invited to the final round of the statewide competition where they will go head-to-head for the grand prize at the New York State Competition on April 26, 2013.
Current undergraduate and graduate students from accredited colleges located in one of the seven counties in the Mid-Hudson region.
The competition reserves the right to withhold prize money and/or in-kind services from teams who do not comply with the eligibility requirements. In order to be eligible to apply for and participate in the competition, teams must meet the following criteria:
- Consist of currently enrolled graduate and/or undergraduate students from accredited New York State colleges and universities
- Cumulative public and private capital raised may not exceed $100,000
- Student ownership of venture must be at least 75%
What's Up for Grabs?
Over $225,000 in prizes. Top teams from the regional competitions will compete for these prizes at the state level. Participating student teams will have the rare opportunity to engage with actual investors and other seasoned entrepreneurs.
Student Ventures should fall into one of the following categories:
- Information Technology/Software
- Nanotechnology/Advanced Technology
- Social Entrepreneurship/Non-Profit
Since 2010, over 140 student teams from 25 New York State colleges and universities have pitched their venture at the New York State Business Plan Competition. The winners are selected each year by esteemed judges including venture capitalists, angels, investment bankers, other sophisticated public and private investors, and seasoned entrepreneurs. At the end of the 2012 competition, more than $310,000 in cash and prizes have been awarded to student entrepreneurs in New York State.
