Why did you choose Marist?

I am an alumnus and a member of the Marist Board of Trustees, so I had a great deal of insight into the quality of Marist faculty and of the educational experience at Marist. Although I must admit that I was very apprehensive about taking an entire course of study on-line.

Tell us about a project or course that was particularly meaningful to your professional development.

I can truly say that each of the ten courses added a new perspective or dimension to my professional and personal development. I was also able to relate so much of what I was learning to my real life working experience. Perhaps most significant, is the intellectual rejuvenation that I experienced.

How has a graduate degree from Marist enhanced your career?

I have developed a particular interest in the concept of Emotional Intelligence and the use of right brain attributes in enhancing one's leadership and communication skills. I have also have found it easier to assume responsibilities of leadership. I have also initiated power point presentations that I have given on leadership for various areas of my organization.

How did you balance school demands with your work and/or family life?

I would not have been able to do it without the support and encouragement from my family, particularly my wife who sacrificed many evenings and weekends of relaxation and simply sharing time together while I was sequestered in the computer room. Even when on vacation, I made daily trips to the internet café. Fortunately, I could accomplish most of my work at the office so I could focus on my courses in the evening. I also have a terrific staff and supportive boss.

What did you enjoy most about being an online student?

There was an incredible sense of accomplishment. A renewed sense of self-esteem, confidence and appreciation of everyone and every aspect of my life. That may sound a bit grandiose but it is what happens when you understand the importance of effective communications and functional relationships in our lives. I also found that you have more meaningful exchanges with your classmates than normal classroom settings and time permits. There is also more time to think before you speak(write), reflect on the comments of the instructor or classmates and explore any topic in greater depth.

Feel free to make any additional comments:

We live in a world where virtually any thing can be virtual. Much to my surprise the virtual classroom of on-line education was a very rewarding experience. I cannot end without mentioning the outstanding faculty. Their knowledge, dedication, Patience and commitment to excellence was remarkable
