My deep interest in psychology and human development guided me in my academic journey. I resonated to Marist College’s objective to teach school psychology students to be experts in psychological assessment, counseling, and educational consultation - the various roles a school psychologist must perform to be effective. Based on these respectable standards, I believed that Marist College would prepare me the best for becoming a school psychologist. In addition, the school psychology professors are phenomenal.

For Sarah Goetze ’20, the decision to come to Marist was an easy one. “Marist was the only graduate school that I applied to because I knew it was where I would be the happiest.” Although she noted that the beautiful campus was a factor, her main reason for choosing Marist was “the small cohort sizes, the blend of professors who are actually in the field, and the program’s National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) certification.” This certification requires students to spend a set amount of time in the field gaining professional experience.

There are many reasons why I chose to pursue my graduate degree at Marist. The cohorts are small and this is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to establish relationships with faculty and candidates. The faculty is another reason why I chose Marist. Most of the professors have a past experience as working school psychologists where they relate real experience to what we are learning in class.
