Why did you choose Marist College?

It is tough to explain exactly why I chose Marist in a few words. But it ranges from its startling campus, business programs, student-to-teacher ratio, small classes and lastly its location being close to the famous NYC.

What was your favorite class? Why?

Criminal Justice is probably my favorite class. A great thing Marist has is that it's teachers are or were involved in some way with the subject they teach in the real world. My teacher was a cop here in Poughkeepsie; he is a very interesting man with a lot of attention-grabbing stories. As a matter of fact, I am changing my minor to Criminal Justice.

What is the best part of living on campus?

Everything is close! If you want to go grab a bite, study at the library, go to class, they are all not 5 minutes away from each other (walking). It makes the student feel even more that he / she is living with a family.

Where is your favorite place on campus?

The library! It is another world. I never appreciated a library's resources, and when I came here, I was astonished by the available resources, the lovely architecture, and the fact that it is very close to my dorm. Also, with the library having a lot of people in it almost every day, motivates me to go and study there.

How do you connect with friends and family at home while at Marist?

With technology these days, there is no need for the letters by mail. Skype, Whatsapp, E-mail, Facebook... Every day I call my parents to check in with them, which makes me feel comfortable, and then later I would contact my friends and have a few laughs.

What kind(s) of extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I am part of the Marist Ambassadors, whom basically represent this school. We help out in the admissions office, host students from high school for a day, and sometimes a night or two. It is a very exciting thing to do, where you meet more people, and help them narrow down their decision for College. Also, I am in the Volleyball Intramural team. Moreover, I am in the Campus Ministry club, which is a very fun and interesting club, I help with the community service activities.

Tell us about a “cultural” moment you had at Marist (culture shock, funny story, etc.).

Actually a rather funny story was when I was introduced to this person, and they asked me where I was from, and so I told them "Jordan." They replied back with a shocked face and asked me "You guys don't have cars, you ride Camels everywhere, right?" I looked at that person with a huge smile, and said "Oh, I wish!"

What do you do for fun outside of Marist?

There are a number of things... On the weekends we either watch a movie at the theater, go out to a friend’s house, and during the day we might even go the "Galleria" mall, which is huge! There are also any activities offered by the school, such as Broadway shows in NYC!
