Alumna Lands First Job Through The MART Program:

Julie LavinBecause I’m so passionate about Marist, I knew that the MART program would be a perfect way for me to express those feelings to both prospective students and families. The Sacred Heart Academy college fair on September 24th was my first of five fairs. After setting up all of our materials, my friend, Sara, and I were ready to represent Marist and the Admission Office. For a first fair, I couldn’t ask for a more exciting three hours. Both of us were constantly talking with families about various aspects regarding Marist! Obviously, since “ I bleed Marist red”, I didn’t mind the constant visitors we had.

As a surprise to me, after speaking with one mother and daughter for a solid ten minutes about Marist, the mother approached the table roughly an hour later to give me her business card. She presumed that I already had a job, but said that her company was always looking for interns and that they even had a current opening. When I heard this, my eyes lit up and I explained that I didn't have a job and was currently searching for one. She told me to call her the following day and we would speak soon. After the fair, I looked at her business card to see she is the general sales manager at 95.5 WPLJ, the radio station. They were currently hiring, and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to her and apply. Within three days, we had scheduled an interview and they ended up offering me the job within about a week and a half.

I am proud to say that I am now a current employee of 95.5 WPLJ, and I started Monday October 19th. If it weren’t for the MART program, I would have never had the opportunity to meet Patricia and interview for my current position. It’s funny how things work out…some of the best things happen to us when we least expect it. I had so much fun representing Marist at the five fairs I attended, and I truly hope that I helped prospective students and families realize what an amazing institution Marist is. College was the best four years of my life, and I will forever cherish the memories and experiences I had there.

If you're a proud Marist Alumn you should absolutely be part of the MART program. For me it was easy to attend the college fairs in my area and I look forward to participating in more MART activities soon!
