On Sunday, October 6, during Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, the men’s crew team held a dedication and christening ceremony at the Historic Cornell Boathouse to welcome a new racing shell, the Harry A. Manley, into the program.
A fundraising initiative known as the Decades' Cup Challenge was instituted among crew alumni to raise the funds needed to purchase this shell. As part the challenge, five decades of alumni competed to raise money for this shell; with the winning decade to receive naming rights. The 1970s won the Decades' Cup Challenge. They chose to name it after Harry A. Manley. A graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School in the Philadelphia area, Harry was the first experienced coxswain to attend Marist and was an enormous motivator to his teammates. He coxed his crews to victories at the Presidents Cup and the Head of Charles. Harry tragically passed away at the age of twenty-one. It is in his honor and memory that the 1970s have chosen the name "Harry A. Manley" for the new shell.
Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative, especially the decade captains Jim Cockroft '73, J.C. Berzal '84, James Sullivan '95, and Dave Buckner '02.
On Friday, April 19, ten former Marist Lacrosse players joined the current men’s lacrosse team for a special dinner in the Historic Cornell Boathouse. The Marist Alumni Office hosted a fan reception before the game on Saturday, March 23, on the University of Maryland campus. The women fell to Michigan State 47-55 but it did not diminish a season of impressive accomplishments, one in which Marist truly achieved greatness as a team.
