Integrative Studies

Realizing that curricula designed for traditional college students do not always meet the educational needs of working adults, Marist offers the Integrative Studies major. This program provides students with the flexibility to tailor their educational experiences at Marist to meet both personal and professional objectives. Students in the Integrative Studies major are free to design, with faculty advisement, their own individualized undergraduate degree programs. Students select their concentrations from two or more areas of study. These include, but are not limited to, Organizational Administration, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Communication, Information Systems Analysis and Design, Paralegal, and Psychology.

Included in every Integrative Studies program is a six-course sequence that takes an interdisciplinary approach toward learning which draws from various fields of study. These courses also fulfill the distributive core/liberal studies curriculum required in traditional majors. The sequence begins with an initial course that helps students design their programs, assess prior life experiences, and formulate educational goals. Additional courses focus on the integration of learning across various disciplines and the chance to demonstrate synthesis of theory and practice through a capping experience. The Integrative Studies program offers coursework in Fishkill and Poughkeepsie.

Features of the Integrative Studies Program include:

  • Structure and flexibility that challenge students to define their educational goals
  • Maximization of transfer credits
  • Accelerated Saturday and evening programs for working adults
  • Convenient locations in Poughkeepsie and Goshen
  • A focus on incorporating knowledge from across a variety of disciplines
  • Excellent preparation for graduate school and/or professional development

Mission Statement

The Integrative Studies Program provides adult undergraduate students with tailored educational programs which are flexible enough to meet diverse student needs and interests, yet structured enough to maintain the high academic standards of a Marist College degree program. This is achieved through the integration of academic areas, lifetime learning and work experience, all within an interactive learning environment.
