Integrative Studies Coursework

The Integrative Studies Program is unlike any other undergraduate offering at Marist College or at any of the local colleges in the Hudson Valley Region of New York. At its heart is the interdisciplinary structure of the degree program where students can individually design concentrations to make up their major or participate in the templated programs that have been developed by our faculty. In addition, students are exempted from completing the traditional undergraduate core of 45-51 credits in the Core/Liberal Studies curriculum.

The Integrative Studies Core, made up of eighteen credits, provides adult students with a set of courses developed with adult learning theories in mind. This sequence of six courses (plus the College Writing requirement) remains consistent with the purpose of the regular undergraduate core by supporting and enhancing the goals of that traditional core.

Integrative Course Courses:

  • PHIL 103: World Views and Values (philosophy and ethics)
  • INTD 105: Perspectives on Education
  • INTD 209: Perspectives on the Humanities
  • INTD 212: Perspectives on Social Institutions
  • INTD 213: Perspectives on Science & History
  • INTD 477: The Capping Experience (senior project)

In addition to unique major requirements and a unique approach to the core liberal studies curriculum, students in the Integrative Studies Program also have access to the Prior Learning Program. Through this program are allowed to petition for prior learning, life work, standardized testing of professional training credits. These credits can be applied toward their total credit count of 120 credits for a BA/BS in Integrative Studies.
