Bio: Karen Michel is a broadcast radio journalist, performer, and educator. Born in NYC, raised in LA and lived many places, including many years in "bush" Alaska. Michel began her career in radio as a 5 year old guest on "Kids Say the Darndest Things." Two years later she also began a career in television, again as a guest on "Kids Say the Darndest Things." She continues to say nearly anything that's on her mind.

Interests: Radio and sound in all forms; visual art; sled dog racing; photography; clay; the bizarre.

Awards & Honors: Among them: George Foster Peabody Award (twice), Corporation for Public Broadcasting, National Endowment for the Arts Media Artist Fellowship (many times), National Federation of Community Broadcasters, American Women in Radio and Television, Indo-US Subcommission of the Fulbright Program, Japan Foundation, Alaska State Council on the Arts, US-Japan Friendship Commission

Publications: Numerous radio programs, many accessible on www.npr.org, others on www.prx.org, others floating around the ethers.
