Glenn Tunstull is a contemporary Hudson Valley artist who resides outside of Claverack, New York.
Tunstull’s work focuses on abstract landscapes that capture an essence of Georges Seurat’s pointallist masterpieces. Tunstull is greatly influenced by the Berkshires, the Catskills, Cape Cod and Brazil. His paintings are collectible on the East Coast where he regularly exhibits. The paintings of the Hudson Valley and Cape Cod reveal the lifestyle of the east coast in picturesque settings.
Educated at Parsons, the New School for Design in fashion, he has been an Adjunct-Professor there for more than fifteen years – teaching drawing and painting to fashion design students. He has also been teaching at Marist College for the past five years. In addition, he has taught at The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and at Pratt Institute. All this, followed a successful career as a Fashion Illustrator, with his work gracing the pages of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, WWD, The New York Times, etc. -- with clients ranging from Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein to Hermes and Kenzo in Paris. Additionally he has illustrated several books published by Simon & Schuster. His work has been highlighted as a leading Fashion Illustrator in the Line of Fashion exhibit at The Society of Illustrators in NYC and at the Drawing On Style exhibit in London, UK in 2014.
It was his thirst for challenges as an artist that initially inspired Tunstull's move to landscapes. "I have a preoccupation with water and light which drives me to paint a particular setting", he states. His settings, thus far have been as striking as they have been varied. His images extend from the pastoral settings of the Hudson Valley, to the energetic and breathtaking color of Bahia, Brazil. Add works from Australia, Bali, England, France, Italy and Japan, and it's easy to see how Tunstull has reinvented himself as one of this generation's premiere, truly international artists – as evidenced by the overwhelming groundswell of support that greets his shows.
Glenn’s last major shows, Vineyard Colors, at the Cousen Rose Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard this summer and The Art of Giving at the Visual Arts Gallery in New York City this fall.
