Internships

We guarantee you an internship placement! We can do that because of our extensive contacts with media companies. The New York Media Experience Program is operated by Marist Colleges Communication Program, which has more than 25 years of experience placing undergraduate students in New York City internships. Marist's connections with dozens of leading New York City media firms means students have access to internships in news, sports, advertising, public relations and broadcasting companies and organizations.

Benefits of an Internship

  • Gain experience
  • Make career contacts
  • Enhance your self confidence
  • Get a competitive edge in the job market.

National surveys consistently show that students who do internships enjoy a clear competitive edge over those who do not gain internship experience. Get your edge with a internship in New York!

Internship Preparation / Interview / Selection

There are several steps to obtaining an internship. Our staff will guide you through this 5-step process.

  1. Prepare: We will assist you in developing and fine-tuning a resume and cover letter. You will examine internship listings and discuss possible sites with our staff.
  2. Select: Create a "target list" of potential internship sites.
  3. Apply: Your resume will be sent to those internship sites.
  4. Interview: Employers will contact you for either a telephone interview or an in-person interview. This is a critical step. It is important for you to interview well and sell yourself as a mature, serious student. Media internships are highly competitive. We can help prepare you for this important step.
  5. Accept: Once you receive an offer, your internship work schedule can be finalized

Internship Credits

To gain experience and knowledge, you need to commit time to an employer. Interning a minimum of 4 days per week is strongly recommended for most internship sites. NYMEP awards 9 credits for interns who work 4 days per week, but you will need to check with your home institution on transferring internship credits. The number of credits can vary by institution. Check with your faculty advisor or department head in advance.
