DESCRIPTION:Michael Fowler, Marist '09, currently of Clarkson University w
 ill speak on "An Introduction to Biometrics".\n\nAbstract\nBiometrics is 
 the field of study in which humans are identified by their characteristic
 s or traits. With recent advances in information technology, biometric sy
 stems have become both more sophisticated and more affordable.  These sys
 tems have since leapt off of movie screens and into the real world as voi
 ce, facial, and retina identification systems are now widely practical. I
 n this talk I will discuss current use and recent developments in biometr
 ics. Specifically, I will discuss how one extracts unique speaker feature
 s from a measured sound signal as well as pattern recognition and dimensi
 on reduction techniques that allow us to distinguish between speakers.\n\
 nRefreshments will be served.
