The Marist College Center for Sports Communication is launching a Sports Documentary Filmmaker Series, bringing sports documentarians to campus to screen and discuss their films. Following each screening, filmmakers will hold a Q&A period with the audience, discussing both the process and content of their respective films.
The series begins Monday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Screening Room in the lower level of Lowell Thomas Communication Center with the screening of the film "Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports." This film takes a critical look at the history of anti-doping policies and testing in professional sports. Andrew Muscato, who produced and directed the film, will answer questions from the audience after Monday’s screening. The documentary, which premiered recently on EPIX, features interviews from former athletes, top sports administrators, and sports journalists. These include ESPN’s T.J. Quinn, former BALCO CEO Victor Conte, and Executive Director of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith, among many others. Bobby Valentine is an executive producer, while actor Nick Kroll narrates the film.
This film series comes in conjunction with the Center for Sports Communication’s newly announced Distinguished Pro in Sports Communication adjunct series, which launches this spring with Jon Frankel of HBO’s Real Sports teaching a special topics course titled "Producing the Sports Documentary."
