A lecture on gender, writing, and the American Revolution.
Mr. Myers is the author of Revolutionary, a historical novel set in the 18th century. The novel narrates the story of Deborah Samson, a woman who fought in the Revolutionary War dressed as a man. The lecture will address issues of Samson’s life, gender, sexuality, researching, and writing.
Mr. Myers holds master degrees from Georgetown and Brown University and an M.F.A. from Vermont College of Fine Arts. He is an English teacher at Phillips Exeter Academy as well asAdjunct Professor and Assistant Director of the Center for Business Communications at American University. Alex himself was born a woman and was the first transgender student at Phillips Exeter Academy.
