Danielle DeZao '12, Founder of heart1
Marist College welcomes Danielle DeZao '12 to campus on Wednesday, February 22, to tell her story of her survival from an abusive relationship.
Danielle created an organization called Heart1, a project representative of her goal to "heal a heart, remove the 1" of the one in three she never thought she would become. She has since become a coalition leader for Love is Not Abuse, worked alongside Judge Jeanine Pirro, fashion guru Tim Gunn, Mariska Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation, Joe Torre, Willie Mays, and Sergio Martinez on Futures Without Violence, and participated in a round-table discussion at The White House.
After the presentation, Danielle will join a panel for an interactive discussion and Q & A with special guests: Dr. Naomi Ferleger, Director of Counseling Services, Marist College; Lt. Gary Hulbert '15, Community Policing Unit, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department; Mr. Edward Freer, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Marist College; Ms. Kathy Peluso, Family Services, Center for Victim Safety and Support, Coordinator of Training and Outreach.
