Dr. Amy Bloch, SUNY Albany
On Thursday, April 6, Dr. Amy Bloch will deliver a lecture entitled "Lorenzo Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise: Humanism, History, and Artistic Philosophy in the Italian Renaissance."
Dr. Bloch is Associate Professor of Art History at the University at Albany. Her research focuses on Italian Renaissance art and architecture - sculpture in particular. Her book on Ghiberti's artistic interpretations of Old Testament narratives in the Gates of Paradise was published by Cambridge University Press in 2016. Her articles and essays explore works by Ghiberti, Donatello, Michelangelo, as well as the art and ritual of baptism in Florence. Her work has been supported by fellowships and grants from the Villa I Tatti (the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence), the Renaissance Society of America, and the College Art Association.
