“The Green New Deal: Global Perspectives and a New York State Program”
Sustainability Week Lecture
Robert Pollin is Distinguished Professor of Economics and founding Co-Director of the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. The author or editor of more than 15 books, Pollin’s work challenges the perception that environmental protection comes at the expense of economic growth. His research demonstrates that green economies are compatible with high employment and a living wage. In 2013, Pollin was selected as one of the ‘100 Leading Global Thinkers” by "Foreign Policy" magazine. He has consulted for numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, U.S. Department of Energy, International Labour Organization, and United Nations Industrial Development Organization. In addition, Pollin is the founder and President of PEAR (Pollin Energy and Retrofits), a green energy company that works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with our energy usage.
