Global Studies "From the Field" Lecture Series

SC3101 (PAR)
The Global Studies Program "From the Field" Lecture Series presents "Nation Building: Observations from the Ground," a lecture by Derek McGee, a Marine veteran and author of "When I Wished I Was Here: Dispatches From Fallujah."

A veteran of the Marine infantry (2nd Battallion, 25th Marines), Derek McGee served two tours in Iraq. He is the author of "When I Wished I Was Here: Dispatches From Fallujah (The Crumpled Press), described by film director Wes Craven as "beautifully written and very moving...God knows it's a story that needs to be told, and Derek tells it like it is."

When McGee returned to work at Merrill Lynch his participation in the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement prompted a request from The Nation magazine to write an article chronicling his journey from Marine, to financier, to Occupy Wall Street protester. After leaving Wall Street, he studied Urban Affairs at Hunter College. He has appeared on "Countdown" with Keith Olbermann and at various media outlets and lecture venues.

This talk is sponsored by the Global Studies Program, the Center for Civic Engagement, and the Center for Multicultural Affairs.
