Mitchell Stephens, Lowell Thomas Lecture

MU3201 - Fusco Recital Hall
Mitchell Stephens will give a talk on campus on November 6th about his
latest book, "The Voice of America: Lowell Thomas and the Invention of 20th
Century Journalism". This is the first full-length biography on Thomas and
features considerable research conducted in the Marist Archives and Special
Collections' Lowell Thomas Papers.

Mitchell Stephens, a professor of journalism in the Carter Institute at New
York University, is the author of "A History of News", a New York Times
“notable book of the year.”  Stephens also has written several other books
on journalism and media, including "Beyond News: The Future of Journalism
and The Rise of the Image the Fall of the Word". He also published "Imagine
There’s No Heaven: How Atheism Helped Create the Modern World".
Stephens was a fellow at the Shorenstein Center at Harvard’s Kennedy
School. He shares Lowell Thomas’ love of travel and had the privilege of
following Thomas' tracks through Colorado, Alaska, the Yukon, Europe,
Arabia, Sikkim and Tibet.

The lecture will be held in the Fusco Recital Hall in the Murray Student Center on
November 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will start with
Professor Stephen's talk, followed by a discussion and a book signing.

This event is being sponsored by the Archives and Special Collections and
the James A. Cannavino Library.
