This Wednesday, April 4th, from 11-3, MPorium and Autism Speaks U will be collaborating to host a shopping event. 15% of all purchases will be donated to Marist’s Autism Speaks U chapter. Dr. Steven Alvarez is Assistant Professor of English and Coordinator of the First-Year Writing Program at St. John's University. He specializes in literacy studies and bilingual education with a focus on Mexican immigrant communities. He is author of books "Brokering Tareas: Mexican Immigrant Families Translanguaging Homework Literacies" and "Community Literacies en Confianza: Learning From Bilingual After-School Programs." His talk is titled "Taco Literacy: Writing Transnational Mexican Foodways." Sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts, English Department, Writing Center, and First-Year Seminars.

Nukporfe African Drumming and Dance Ensemble is a group from Binghamton University that performs drum-dance music from Africa and the African Diaspora. The performance will include dances primarily from Ghana, West Africa. The group will feature TAs and students from the University, as well as select artists from New York City and Boston. The ensemble is led by Dr. Elikem Nyamuame, Visiting Professor of Music and Theater at Binghamton University and Dr. Gavin Webb, Director of International Programs at Marist.
