On Monday, Nov 25th the Art Department will be hosting its final "Leaders of Creativity" event for the semester. "A Life in Art" will be a conversation with artists Maureen Cummins and Linda Mussmann, who will talk about surviving as an artist with their own personal anecdotes, reflections and advice.
Since graduating from Cooper Union in 1985, Maureen Cummins has cranked presses from California to the Eastern Arctic and produced over thirty limited edition artist books. She has created projects based on slave narratives, the Salem Witch trials, turn of the century gay love letters, and patient records from McLean Hospital, the oldest mental hospital in America. She is represented in over one hundred permanent public collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, The National Gallery, and the Library of Congress.
Linda Mussmann has participated in all aspects of theater: acting, directing, dancing, writing and designing. She has adapted and directed over 30 classic plays including Sartre's "No Exit" and Strindberg's "Three Sisters" and has created many original productions with her partner, artist Claudia Bruce. Mussmann/Bruce Original Productions include "Call Me Melvile, "Mao Wow", "War and Peace: Thoughts and Notes" and "Madame X". In 1973 she founded Time & Space Limited Gallery in Hudson, NY.
