Sports Communcations Lecture: ESPN's Bruce Pearl

Choir Room (MU3201)
The Marist College Center for Sports Communication presents ESPN analyst and former University of Tennessee head basketball coach Bruce Pearl in conversation with Dr. Keith Strudler, Wednesday, March 12.

Pearl, who will discuss his experiences working in college sports and sports television, is best known for his time at the helm of Tennessee’s men’s basketball team from 2005-2011, when he led the Volunteers to a Southeastern Conference regular season championship and the program’s first ever No. 1 national ranking. Pearl also served as head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Southern Indiana and was an assistant coach at Stanford and the University of Iowa.

Pearl joined ESPN as an analyst in 2012, quickly becoming a fixture on various college basketball studio programs. Pearl also serves as a host on Sirius XM Radio’s "College Sports Nation" and makes frequent guest appearances on ESPN Radio.

Pearl has received many accolades throughout his career, including twice being named SEC Coach of the Year, three times the Horizon League Coach of the Year, and earning the Adolph Rupp National Coach of the Year award in 2008. He was the first president of the Jewish Coaches Association and served as the head coach for the gold-medal winning Maccabi USA basketball team in the 2009 World Maccabiah Games.

Pearl graduated from Boston College in 1982, where he served as the manager of the men’s basketball team. Originally from Boston, he currently resides in Knoxville, Tenn. with his family.

Dr. Keith Strudler, director of the Marist College Center for Sports Communication, will moderate the one-on-one discussion with Pearl, covering topics from the ethics of college basketball to the future of the game. The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
