Marist College Art & Digital Media Capping Exhibition

Art Gallery
Seniors in the Department of Art and Digital Media will present IDENTITY CAP'D, their final capping exhibition in the Marist College Art Gallery, which opens with a special reception on Tuesday, April 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and runs through Sunday, April 23.

The Art Gallery is open for this exhibition Tuesday through Sunday, 12:00 noon to 5:00, p.m.

The exhibition features the work of all senior student artists in the department and features works of digital media, photography, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and animation. After a number of external exhibitions and events, the capping students wrap things up on campus with this celebratory exhibition at the Art Gallery in the Steel Plant Studios.

2017 CURSCA, Keynote Speaker, Rickey Ruff '10

The Celebration of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship & Creative Activity (CURSCA) Conference is pleased to welcome Rickey Ruff '10 as its keynote speaker on Wednesday, April 19.

Ricky is a Global Manufacturing and Sourcing Manager at Ralph Lauren Corporation. He has successfully carried out roles in design development, technical design, global business process, as well as production and currently works on Ralph Lauren's Runway Collection. He was the first person in the history of Marist College to play football for the Red Foxes while majoring in Fashion.

CURSCA is Marist's annual showcase of student scholarly and creative work, which provides a forum for students to share their work with, and be celebrated by, the College community. The first celebration was held in April 2002 and was limited to a display of posters. CURSCA 2017 will feature the keynote speaker and poster sessions, as well as oral presentations, and other means of expression such as musical and dramatic performance, artwork, and other types of scholarly and creative activity.

Bob Holman, "Language Matters" Host and Poet

A student poetry slam, a Writing Salon, and screening with poet Bob Holman will take place Wednesday, April 19, as Marist continues its celebration of National Poetry Month.

Starting at 5 p.m. in the the Steel Plant Studio Art Gallery, Holman, founder of the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City and host of the landmark PBS program "Language Matters," will host a Writing Salon. Holman founded the legendary Bowery Poetry Club in 2001. For his decades of work in service to the arts community in New York and beyond, he has received numerous awards, including New York University’s Community Citizen of the Year award in 2005, the Elizabeth Kray Poetry award in 2006, and the 2012 Urban Word Champion Award. From 2007 to 2010, Holman was Visiting Professor at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is the author of sixteen poetry collections, including his most recent "Sing This One Back to Me."

Holman’s Writing Salon will include a screening of his short film "Khonsay," followed by a Q&A session with audience members. That same evening, Holman will serve as judge for the 13th Annual Red Fox Poetry Slam, held in the Cabaret at 9 p.m.

Dr. Robert Lifset, Environmental History Lecture

Help celebrate Earth Day by coming to hear Dr. Robert Lifset give a talk about his book, "Power on the Hudson: Storm King Mountain and the Emergence of Modern American Environmentalism" (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2014). Robert is the Donald Keith Jones Associate Professor of Honors and History at the University of Oklahoma, and he conducted much of his research to complete his book in the Marist Archives and Special Collections' Environmental History Collections.

The lecture will be held in the Fusco Recital Hall in the Murray Student Center on April 21st from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will start with Dr. Lifset's talk, followed by a discussion and a book signing.

This event is being sponsored by the Archives and Special Collections, the James A. Cannavino Library, and the Hudson River Valley Institute.

The Mid-Hudson Section of the American Chemical Society and Marist College present the 18th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Friday, April 21.

This symposium provides an opportunity for undergraduates from local colleges to present their research in the chemical sciences. All areas of chemistry, environmental science, molecular biology, and related fields are welcome. Guest speaker, Dr. Luis M. Campos, Associate Professor at Columbia University, will speak on "Modular Polyelectrolytes for Batteries and Bioimaging."

Marist College Club of Theatre Arts Presents "The Language Archive"

Marist College Club of Theatre Arts (MCCTA) is excited to introduce a story of love, language, and connection. This unique and thoughtful play is is directed by Christine Crawfis, who has directed various productions in Dutchess County as well as MCCTA’s experimental play last year, "Dog Sees God." "The Language Archive" was written by Julia Cho in 2009 and tells the story of George, a man who studies dying languages, yet cannot seem to grasp the language of love. George lacks the understanding of emotional connections, especially when involving his wife, Mary and his work assistant, Emma who is in love with him.

Performances take place on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 at 8 p.m., with a matinee showing on Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m.

Marist College Dance Ensemble "In the Spotlight"

McCann Center
The Marist College Dance Ensemble presents "In the Spotlight" on Saturday, April 22 at 2 pm and Sunday April 23 at 3 pm at the McCann Center. The performances will showcase many different styles of dance, including contemporary, hip hop, jazz, ballet, tap, Irish step, and kickline.

The doors will open one hour before the start of the show.

Pre-sale ticket prices are $7 for students/senior citizens and $12 for general admission. Presale dates are Monday, April 10th from 7-10pm and Wednesday, April 19th from 5-8pm in the Champagnat Breezeway.

Ticket prices at the door are $8 for students/senior citizens and $14 for general admission.
