Reading by Visiting Writer Nicole Hardy

Henry Hudson Room (Fn301)
New York Times columnist Nicole Hardy, author of the new best-selling memoir Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin, will read from her work this coming Tuesday, September 17th at 6.30pm in the Henry Hudson Room. A question-and-answer session will follow the reading. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

Nicole Hardy's groundbreaking memoir Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin (Hyperion, 2013) asks the timely question: what is it like to be a devout Mormon woman in today’s world? Poet and essayist Hardy first opined on the matter in her New York Times Magazine column, “Modern Love,” in which she laid bare her personal struggles to be true to both her heart and her faith. In this achingly candid memoir, Hardy delves more deeply into the dilemmas faced as she aged out of the church’s “single ward” and into her thirties. At a time when her mind should have been on the Mormon tenets of marriage and motherhood, Hardy found herself more interested in writing. Nicole Hardy is also the author of two books of poetry and her writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

For more information about the author, check out her website at www.nicolehardy.com

Launch Party for ESPN Radio show, "The Classroom"

LT Lower Level Lobby
The Marist College Center for Sports Communication will launch its live radio show on ESPN 1220, a 10,000 watt affiliate based in the Hudson Valley. The show, called “The Classroom,” is the station's first locally produced sports show and is the first such partnership in the country, where an academic center runs a show through an ESPN affiliate. We will produce the show from our very own radio studio in the Lowell Thomas building. Student interns for the Center work all aspects of producing the show, starting with research and show planning on Monday morning to taking a mic during the show through running the boards for the final credit on Saturday, making this an exciting learning laboratory for our students. With all their help, I’ll be hosting the program along with Marist athletics play-by-play host Geoff Brault.

While we certainly hope you tune in each week, we’re going to kick of the first show with a listening party. So, everyone is invited to the lower level of Lowell Thomas this Saturday to watch and hear this historic first show. The party starts at 9:45 a.m. before the 10 a.m. live broadcast, which goes until noon. We’ll have food, and since it’s our first go at this, there will be plenty of comedy, intentional and otherwise.
