The 134-hectare (33-acre) Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) campus is Hong Kong's largest university campus and offers an inspiring and ever-changing view of Tolo Habor and the hills beyond. The campus is a splendid mixture of Chinese and Western architectural styles, and greenery is nicely carved out of rocks on three plateaus.
CUHK has its origins in three post-secondary colleges: New Asia College (founded in 1949), Chung Chi College (founded in 1956), and the United College of Hong Kong (founded in 1956). The fourth college, Shaw College, was founded in 1988. The colleges provide scholastic and cultural activities to complement academic learning. The college system is unique amongst institutions of higher learning in Hong Kong.
Since its establishment, CUHK has adopted bilingualism and biculturalism in its curriculum for the benefit of local and international students and scholars. Courses are taught in Chinese and English, and in some cased in both languages. This learning environment is ideal for those who are interested in studying in a Chinese context but are unfamiliar with the language.
International Asian Studies Programme
In keeping with CUHK's distinctive educational mission of promoting cultural exchange between East and West, an International Asian Studies Programme (IASP) was launched at CUHK in 1977 with the support of the Yale-China Association. The IASP provides students with an opportunity to study, conduct research, and live in a metropolitan Chinese city infused with western and eastern cultures.
During your studies at CUHK, students are affiliated with the IASP. The IASP academic program includes:
