Lorenzo de' Medici is pleased to announce the opening of its newest campus this Spring 2009 semester. LdM Venice, in affiliation with Istituto Venezia, offers students an opportunity to study in an historic setting in the city center's Campo Santa Margherita. Whether you traverse the narrow streets on foot or the canals via vaporetto, you're certain to find yourself transported by the atmosphere that is uniquely Venice.
The LdM Venice semester program features a range of courses in the liberal and studio arts, with an emphasis on Italian language and on the rich artistic resources of the city of Venice. In accordance with LdM's commitment to ensuring students' successful intercultural interactions, students will enroll in either a 3 or 6 credit Italian language course as well as a complement of 3 to 4 electives.
After more than 30 years of growth and experience, Scuola Lorenzo de' Medici (LdM) is known as Italy's most distinctive and established study abroad institution. Founded in 1972 in Florence, the School prides itself on its varied offerings of vocationally-oriented courses as well as courses in Business, Communications, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, Math, and Social Sciences, in addition to Italian Language and Culture.
All program participants register for at least 3 credits of Italian Language. Elective courses are offered that may satisfy major requirements as well as fulfill some Humanities Core/LS curriculum categories. LDM VENICE Course Schedule.
Students are required to attend the mandatory orientation session held at LdM Venice. Orientation provides an overview of the city of Venice, an introduction to Italian culture, Italian language placement testing, academic information, and the opportunity to meet program administrators and fellow participants.
Students are housed in furnished apartments (double or single bedroom) with other students. Apartments are not all in the same building, and no two apartments are the same. Some apartments are located within walking distance or by vaporetto (local boat taxis) ride from the school premises, some are a bit further. Venice is a ‘walking city’, where 25/30 minute walks to and from school are normal.
