Networking Services

The IT Network Department is responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading the computer network infrastructure of the college. This is a fairly large and complex network, supporting nearly 5,000 computers at the main campus.

In addition to the physical infrastructure, the Network staff also manages the servers required to administrate such a large network, including DHCP and DNS servers. The staff monitors the network for service disruptions as well as violations in network use policy. It also implements and maintains firewalls to secure portions of the network from harm and assists college management in setting computer security policies.

Along with its normal duties, the Network Department staff also participates in joint studies and grants that involve advanced computer technology, such as implementing the Internet2 connection and researching current video-on-demand services.
