Students in Spanish Course Contribute to Local Event

On November 1, 2015, students in Dr. Patricia Ferrer-Medina's SPAN 201 Communicating in the Spanish-Speaking
World course participated in the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration sponsored by the Middle Main
Initiative of Hudson River Housing in the City of Poughkeepsie. Building upon their academic language study, course
participants conducted a workshop for children and enjoyed the celebration's dancing, food, and music. In addition
to sparking the children's interest with their energy and enthusiasm, students enjoyed an ideal opportunity to test
their language skills through conversation with native speakers.
