MEMORANDUM TO THE MARIST COLLEGE COMMUNITY
FROM: DAVID YELLEN
Tonight marks the beginning of Ramadan, the month-long holiday observed by Muslims worldwide. Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and charitable giving. Fasting is considered one of the five fundamental principles of Islam, and those observing Ramadan do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. The end of Ramadan, which this year falls on the evening of June 24, is celebrated with a festival called Eid al-Fitr. I hope you'll join me in wishing our Muslim students and colleagues Ramadan Mubarak!
