Bob Emmanuel Nkubara

Bob Emmanuel Nkubara is a member of Marist's Class of 2019. He is an international student from Kigali, Rwanda and is majoring in Business Administration and Economics.

Why did you choose Marist College?
I mainly chose Marist College because of its strong business program and the scholarship it gave me. Besides that, I also chose it for the Florence freshman experience and the beautiful view on the New York campus. Last but not least, I chose it for the small class ratio and student to teacher ratio.

What was your favorite class? Why?
Economics is my favorite class because Professor Asraf Ismael makes it lively and the course practical.

What is the best part of living on campus?
Living in Marian hall which is about a minute away from all my classes is definitely the best part of living on campus, seconded by easy access to meals.

Where is your favorite place on campus?
Undoubtedly, it’s at the boathouse where I get to appreciate nature the best.

How do you connect with friends and family at home while at Marist?
I use social networks such as Facebook, Skype and Whatsup to talk to friends and family back home.

What kind(s) of extracurricular activities are you involved in?
I am involved in campus ministry and still trying to find more activities to join.

Tell us about a “cultural” moment you had at Marist (culture shock, funny story, etc.).
I was on the 2nd floor of the library and decided to sit by the coffee shop with a Marist laptop I had just borrowed. Right after exiting through the white sensors whose function always puzzled me, they suddenly made a loud alarming sound as if to alert everybody in the building there is a great danger. The librarians all looked at me and one in particularly signaled me to bring back the laptop and find somewhere else to sit within the set perimeters. I have never felt more embarrassed in a long time!

What do you do for fun outside of Marist?
I go to church every Saturday (Sabbath) morning and usually spend the whole day with fellow church members after service as it not only revives my spirit but brings my week to a calm end.
