MARIST RANKED #15 IN U.S. NEWS BEST COLLEGES SURVEY; MAGAZINE AGAIN CALLS MARIST ONE OF THE TOP SCHOOLS TO WATCH
POUGHKEEPSIE -
For the sixteenth year in a row, Marist College is ranked in the top tier of colleges and universities in the northern United States in the latest edition of the annual U.S. News & World Report America's Best Colleges guide. For the second consecutive year, U.S. News also identified "colleges and universities are "leading the pack in improvements and innovative changes," including Marist College.
Marist was ranked 15th out of 172 colleges and universities in the northern United States that offer a full range of undergraduate and master's degree programs.
U.S. News also named Marist one of 77 "schools to watch" nationwide. The magazine notes, "These 77 colleges and universities were singled out as schools that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus, or facilities."
Marist President Dennis J. Murray said, "It's always very gratifying to have others tell you how well you are doing, and to have your peer institutions recognize the progress Marist has made over the years. The credit for the success goes to our faculty and staff who work every day for the benefit of the students who choose to be part of the Marist community. It is their dedication that brings this increased recognition to Marist."
Vice President for Admission and Enrollment Planning Sean P. Kaylor noted that being called a "school to watch" is an external affirmation of the quality of Marist's academic programs and facilities, and the college's reputation as a "hot school" among high school students and their parents, leading to an ever-increasing number of inquiries, visits, and applications.
Ten thousand applications were received for admission in the Class of 2013, a record for Marist. That was an increase of nearly 9 percent in just one year, and 37 percent over the past three years. Only 36 percent of these applicants were accepted, making this the most select class in Marist history and placing Marist among the 100 most selective schools in America.
Marist will welcome 1,050 first-year students to campus on August 29. Students from 22 states are represented in this class. An additional 175 students will transfer to Marist for the fall semester. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors arrive on campus on August 30, and classes begin the following day.
The U.S. News rankings were based on data collected on students who applied for college admission as first-year students in 2008.
