Marist Theatre Program and Marist College Club of Theatre Arts present "A Chorus Line"
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (February 17, 2016) – The Marist Theatre Program and Marist College Club of Theatre Arts (MCCTA) undertakes its most ambitious musical in its fifty-seven year history this spring with A Chorus Line.
Staying true to the spirit of the show, sixty actors auditioned for the nineteen coveted positions "on the line," and those students have worked twenty-five to thirty hours each week to transform into triple threat performers, who can can act, sing, and dance on stage.
Rehearsing since December, an additional backstage crew and full orchestra of musicians join the cast to prepare for opening night on February 24th. Matt Andrews, Director of the Theatre Program and A Chorus Line, chose to challenge Marist theatre students with the real-world scenario of fighting for a position in a professional production. While these students have a diverse range of majors at the College, the majority minor in Theatre and plan either to pursue a career in the arts or apply skills gained through theatre to a variety of non-arts occupations. Andrews explained, "A central theme in the show is that a wide range of skills are necessary to succeed in one’s career path. In terms of our students, they have not only improved their craft, but now understand the value of a focused rehearsal schedule, extensive preparation, and the personal sacrifices often required to achieve one’s goals."

Marist Theatre Program is comprised of the many theatre activities on campus, each unique yet working together to provide a comprehensive learning and social experience for students of all majors. The Marist Theatre Program includes both the student centered theatre club (MCCTA) and the college’s academic theatre offerings of the English Department’s Concentration in Theatre, Theatre Minor, productions & workshops, theatre scholarships, internships and Summer Pre-College Theatre Institute. A host of theatre courses are offered each year, including Acting, Directing and Playwriting.
Marist College Club of Theatre Arts (MCCTA) is the college’s student-run theatre organization. MCCTA is the college’s oldest club and one of its largest and most active clubs on campus. MCCTA produces several productions a year, including a musical, a comedy or drama, dinner theatre, an original play festival and a children’s theatre production. Some offerings are produced fully by students, while others are in cooperation with academic theatre and its faculty and staff.
