TWO EVENTS FRIDAY TO RAISE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AT MARIST

POUGHKEEPSIE - Marist College will conduct two events on October 23 to raise awareness on how to live a more environmentally sustainable life.

Dumpster Dive: Transform Your Trash will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the Champagnat Mall. This campus project involves faculty, staff, and students in assessing the effectiveness of campus efforts to reduce solid waste by identifying and measuring the types of waste being disposed of from campus residential and academic buildings. This project is offered biannually and is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Executive Vice President, School of Science, Office of Student Affairs, Physical Plant, Marist College Recycling Committee, Campus Sustainability Advisory Committee (CSAC), and Student Government Association GREEN Committee.

350.org Action Day will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Student Center's Performing Arts Room, in support of the international "350.org Action Day." The "350.org Action Day" urges world leaders to take concrete steps to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions from the current 390 parts per million to 350 parts per million. This international day of action comes six weeks before the world's nations convene in Copenhagen for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to discuss a new climate treaty. The 350.org Action Day at Marist will include several educational displays and exhibits emphasizing the College's efforts to develop a more sustainable campus. Displays will include information on cell phone and printer cartridge recycling, campus double-sided printing efforts, a clothing exchange, poster info displays, films, and campus recycling and Marist Information Technology sustainable initiatives.

Both events are open to the general public.
