NOVELIST WENDY RAWLINGS TO OFFER READING AT MARIST

POUGHKEEPSIE - A reading by award-winning novelist and story writer Dr. Wendy Rawlings will take place on Wednesday, November 11, at 8 p.m. in the Henry Hudson Room of Fontaine Hall. Admission is free and the event, which is part of the 2009-2010 Marist Lecture Series, is open to the public. A reception and book-signing will follow the reading.

Rawlings published the novel "The Agnostics" in 2007 and the short story collection "Come Back Irish" in 2003. The latter won the Sandstone Prize at the University of Ohio Press. Her fiction has appeared widely in magazines and literary journals, most notably Atlantic Monthly, Tin House, and AGNI. She teaches in the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Alabama.

Rawling's reading is also part of her visit as this year's Writer in Residence at Marist. The Writer in Residence program brings established writers in all genres to teach an advanced workshop and work with students interested in writing. Past Writers in Residence at Marist include Ron Carlson, Jane Hirshfeld, Li Young Lee, and Nick Flynn.

The Marist Lecture Series is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. For more information on this and other Lecture Series events at Marist, e-mail lectures@marist.edu or call (845) 575-3000 ext. 2381.
