MARIST COLLEGE THEATRE GROUP TAKES STROLL "INTO THE WOODS" FOR FALL MUSICAL PRODUCTION
POUGHKEEPSIE -
The Marist College Council on Theatre Arts (MCCTA) will present "Into the Woods" as its fall musical production. The show will debut on Thursday, November 12, and run through Sunday, November 15. Performances Thursday through Saturday begin at 8 p.m., while the Sunday matinee will begin at 2 p.m. All performances will be in the Nelly Goletti Theatre, located in the Marist Student Center. Tickets are $5 for students, faculty and staff and $10 for general admission. They can be reserved by calling the Marist College Box Office at 575-3133. The show is recommended for mature audiences.
Into the Woods combines some of the most classic childhood fairy tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk,Rapunzel, and Cinderella, into one storyline, becoming intertwined into one comical, musical mix of familiarity and fresh representation. An unexpected concoction of seemingly juvenile subject matter brewed with a pleasant dose of mature humor provides the audience with a performance that takes a completely different approach to fairy tales.
The Stephen Sondheim musical features a cast of 20 students. An additional 20 students have worked behind the scenes to create an exciting fractured-fairy tale atmosphere. The show's director, Bo List, traveled from Memphis, TN, to bring colorful interpretations and new ideas to the Marist production of the musical.
