Dr. Robert Lifset, Donald Keith Jones Associate Professor of Honors and History at the University of Oklahoma, will speak at Marist about his book, Power on the Hudson: Storm King Mountain and the Emergence of Modern American Environmentalism (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2014), much of the research for which he conducted in Marist's Archives and Special Collections' Environmental History Collections. 

The lecture will be held in the Fusco Recital Hall in the Murray Student Center on April 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a book signing.

The event is sponsored by the Archives and Special Collections, the James A. Cannavino Library, and the Hudson River Valley Institute.

Dr. Lifset's research and teaching interests focus on energy history broadly defined. This includes the business, policy, political, environmental, social and cultural history of energy with a focus, though not exclusive, on the United States in the 20th century. He is also the author of American Energy Policy in the 1970s (2014). Dr. Lifset is currently researching a history of the energy crisis of the 1970s. 

Dr. Lifset is also the founding web and list editor of H-Energy (http://www.h-net.org/~energy/), an online, interdisciplinary website devoted to the study of energy history. Before joining the Honors College, Professor Lifset taught at Barnard, Columbia, the University of North Florida and the University of Houston. He earned his Ph.D., M.Phil., and M.A., History from Columbia University and his A.B., in History with honors from the University of Chicago.
