MARIST STUDENTS RATE THEIR PROFESSORS TOPS, LANDING COLLEGE ON POPULAR WEB SITE'S "BEST SCHOOLS" LIST
POUGHKEEPSIE - Great colleges start with great teachers, so Marist is proud to be included on the latest 2011-12 list of "Top 25" colleges and universities from RateMyProfessors.com, the largest such rating site.
Marist is ranked seventh on the list, moving up from 13th place on the inaugural list in 2009-10.
The annual list is built solely on student reviews of current or former professors. The rankings for best schools were determined by analyzing both professor ratings and campus ratings.
"Marist prides itself on a faculty focused first and foremost on teaching," said Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Thomas Wermuth. "The feedback from our students through RateMyProfessors.com, as well as through our own internal surveys, proves the effectiveness of that approach."
In recent decades, Marist has grown from a small, regional college into a highly competitive institution with nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs, a global reach through its leading online education initiatives, a branch campus in Florence, Italy, a world-class campus on the Hudson River, and an increasingly talented and diverse student body.
But, throughout this transformation, Wermuth noted, "One thing that remains constant is the College's traditional emphasis on small classes led by top professors who actively engage with their students and are committed to their overall development as well as their classroom learning."
This distinction comes on the heels of Marist's selection by The Princeton Review for the tenth year in a row as one of the "Best Colleges" for undergraduate education. U.S. News & World Report and Kiplinger's Personal Finance have also recognized Marist for its academic excellence and educational value.
