One of the most basic ways for citizens to participate in democracy is voting. To register to vote in New York State, a person must be:
- a citizen;
- 18 years old by the date of the general, primary, or other election in which the person wants to vote;
- live at the same address at least 30 days before an election;
- not be incarcerated or on parole for a felony conviction;
- and not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
