Marist Students Participate in Abilities First Showcase

Adapted Books for Grades 3-6 Donated to Local Classrooms

On Saturday, March 4, seven teacher candidates from Marist Education Department presented adapted texts to attendees of the Abilities First Showcase of Resources for Enrichment and Inclusion. The Showcase is an annual event held by Abilities First to provide families of individuals with disabilities a venue to learn about local services, products, and agencies that support community inclusion for this population.

Marist teacher candidates presented summaries of books appropriate for students in grades 3-6 and adapted with text supported by graphics. The candidates created the adapted text summaries for an Education course assignment to donate to local classrooms for students with intensive support needs in which they complete course fieldwork. Texts shared have also been used to support students' with disabilities'  access to participation in recent Big Read events held by the Poughkeepsie Library.
