Education Department Offers Tips for Interviewing

Teachers and School Administrators Share Advice

Two events scheduled for February will provide students with tips for interviewing.  Marist’s Education Department hosted the Second Annual Hudson Valley New Teacher Institute (HVNTI) on February 4. Nearly twenty-five veteran teachers and school administrators from neighboring school districts shared their thoughts on curriculum, functions of special service personnel, time management, demands of student teaching and interview skills. Led by a 2005 Marist alumna and Arlington High School teacher, Ms. Kathryn Nixon, HVNTI reinforces expectations and responsibilities faced by education majors preparing for their student teaching experience or for their first teaching position. Students from SUNY New Paltz and Vassar College joined with Marist students for an informative event.

The second event takes place on February 23 when eleven administrators and teachers participate in a two-hour session presenting their experiences and expectations when interviewing prospective teachers. Organized by the Education Department and Teachers of Tomorrow, the guest panelists from area school districts and agencies will provide helpful hints when interviewing and conduct mock interviews.
