Social Work Students Participate in Anti-Bullying Youth Summit

Mediation Center of Dutchess County, Marist Students and Faculty Collaborate

More than 175 students and staff from 15 middle and high schools attended the Mediation Center of Dutchess County’s 3rd Annual Anti-Bullying Youth Summit, October 24, co-sponsored by Marist College. Students in grades 7-12 attended workshops such as Bullying: Stop and Think First Be a Friend, Not a Bully, and Sexting and Cyberbullying. Five workshops were conducted by Marist College social work and education students and three were conducted by high school students from Red Hook, Poughkeepsie and the Town of Wallkill Police Department Youth Coalition. The Anti-Defamation League conducted a workshop for school staff. This year, the first Upstander Award was presented to a Red Hook High School club that conducted bullying surveys at the high school, middle school and elementary school. As a result of the survey, the students designed a Safe Space program to address bullying".
