The philosophy of education of the Chemistry faculty is centered on a keen awareness that chemistry is a laboratory science. Accordingly, the entire undergraduate experience culminates in the senior research course. Each student selects a research problem and works with one of the faculty in the design, execution, and interpretation of an experimental project. The results are written up in journal article format, and reported to the faculty and fellow students at the chemistry seminar. It is difficult to describe the sense of pride and accomplishment that both faculty and senior students experience as the Marist experience in chemistry comes to a close with such a striking demonstration of growth and maturity.
