Department Graduate Success

Medical technologists are among the allied health professionals most in demand in today's healthcare industry. A national shortage of medical technologists has markedly increased job prospects in both the medical setting and in industry.

Marist medical technology graduates have experienced 100 percent employment success since the first graduating class in 1985. Many students secure employment before graduation and all find positions within a few months of beginning their job search.

Graduates perform diagnostic analyses in hospitals, clinics, private laboratories and government health agencies. They can work as generalists or specialize in a particular discipline, such as clinical microbiology. Career opportunities also exist in teaching and research at universities and medical centers, as well as in the research, marketing, and technical service areas of medical products industries. Administrative or management roles are available for those with advanced degrees and experience.

Graduates have found employment with such prestigious institutions as:

  • Albany Medical Center
  • Bayer Corporation
  • BioMerieux Vitek, Inc.
  • Brigham and Women's Hospital
  • Duke Medical Center
  • Lahey Clinic
  • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
  • Mount Sinai Hospital
  • New York Presbyterian Hospital

Marist's program also prepares its majors for graduate studies. A master's degree can lead to positions such as epidemiologist, physician assistant, or pathologist's assistant. A bachelor of science degree in medical technology, coupled with a master's degree in business administration, is ideal for management positions in healthcare facilities or industry, while a doctorate leads to exciting careers in research and education. Medical technology is a particularly good choice of undergraduate major for those interested in professional school (e.g., medical, osteopathic, dental, optometry, etc.) because it provides an excellent foundation in diagnostic medicine.
