Marist College has been informed by New York State Education Department of approval to offer a Master of Science – Physician Assistant Studies Program. The program has also been granted Accreditation-Provisional Status by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status. The status indicates that the plans and resource allocation for the proposed program appear to demonstrate the program's ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards, if fully implemented as planned. Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class. Students must graduate from an accredited program in order to be eligible to sit for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE).

The program will be located in a new science and allied health building on the Poughkeepsie campus which is expected to be completed in January 2016. The building will house a gross anatomy laboratory, a simulation suite to include a two bay trauma/surgical ward and five traditional clinical examination rooms in addition to classroom, office and student study space. The twenty four month program will accept its first cohort in May 2016 and aims to become one of the best programs in the country.
