A Welcome from the President

Dennis J. Murray

I am pleased to present Marist College's new five-year strategic plan, titled Leadership and Innovation for a Changing World: Strategic Plan 2011 - 2016. The plan was developed in consultation with hundreds of members of the College community, including trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The plan builds on the considerable success we have experienced over the past decade and, at the same time, emphasizes directions and priorities that will enhance our competitive position and make our college a more distinctive one.

The plan outlines a road map for Marist to become one of the top comprehensive liberal arts colleges in the country. We will accomplish this by remaining a student centered institution that provides a high-quality educational experience. The values or ideals that underpin the Marist experience are excellence in education, the importance of community, and the principle of service. By pursuing these ideals, we believe we will help students develop the intellect, character, and skills required for enlightened, ethical, and productive lives in the global community of the 21st century.

The goals contained in this plan focus on several key areas: 1) enhancing the quality and distinctiveness of the Marist educational experience for all students - traditional age undergraduates, graduate students, and adult learners; 2) promoting innovation, experimentation, and creativity throughout all academic and administrative areas of the College; 3) becoming a recognized institution for preparing ethical and effective leaders for a global society; 4) advancing our leadership role in using technology to support teaching, learning, scholarship, and institutional effectiveness; 5) building a more diverse and international college community; 6) maintaining a distinctive and cohesive Marist community at campus sites, online, and abroad; 7) strengthening the College's network with external organizations and increasing strategic partnerships to create new opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni; and 8) diversifying and growing the financial base of the College.

I encourage you to read our plan closely and I thank the members of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee for their fine work in producing an excellent strategic plan for Marist College.

President
