About Wil:

Hometown: Bronx, NY

Education:
B.A. in Radio/TV Production and Black Studies - SUNY New Paltz
M.A. in Africana Studies - University at Albany

My earliest Marist Memory is...Visiting the Marist campus for the first time as an undergraduate student from New Paltz and appreciating the intimate and warm look of the campus on that cold winter day.

When I think of heroes, I think of...Kwame Nkrumah. He mobilized many people to become self-sufficient and conscious of their surroundings. His leadership was conducive to Ghana's independence in 1951. (The 1st nation in Africa to peacefully gain its independence from a colonial power.)

One of my favorite movies is...Coach Carter. The characters did a great job illustrating the importance of teamwork and camaraderie during turbulent times.

My friends would describe me as...Loyal, sweet, humble, genuine, caring and someone who loves to laugh.

My biggest mentor growing up was...My Mom. She is a personification of hard work and determination. Sometimes, when things didn't workout, she would tell me that I had to learn to "agarar el toro por los cuernos" (grab the bull by its horns) and persevere.

If I could go anywhere I would go to...Hawaii.

One of the best things about college is...the opportunity of self discovery. College is where students find out who they are and new experiences open their eyes to who they can be.

When not busy with things at Marist I like to...play and watch basketball, baseball and football, get to know people, listen to underground musicians, watch and collect art sculptures and paintings and watch movies. I also like to do arts and crafts when I'm in an artistic mood.

My message to the Students of Marist is...Self-love illuminates your path in life. To reach your destination, you must keep your path bright.
