Summer Fashion Institute

Do you have what it takes to become a fashion designer? Are you interested in pursuing a career in the Fashion Industry? The Marist College Fashion Program Summer Institute provides you with an opportunity to "try on" some of the exciting elements of the fashion business while attending an intensive thirteen day program on the beautiful Marist College campus. Upon completion of the course, high school students will receive three college credits along with the opportunity to explore the exciting world of fashion design and merchandising.

The Fashion Summer Institute is housed within the Marist College School of Communication and the Arts. The curriculum is taught by the faculty of the highly regarded Fashion Program at Marist College. Faculty members all have extensive experience in the fashion industry and related fields. Students will learn about the different areas of concentration within the fashion industry and the skills required to attain careers in these areas. They will learn how the fashion world thinks, creates and solves problems. Studio work will include sewing, figure drawing, CAD and portfolio development culminating in a fashion show/photo shoot at the end of the session. There will be lectures such as "Defining Your Target Customer", "Understanding Trends", "History of Costume", and of course there will be a field trip to New York to explore the garment center, exhibits and museums.

If you are accepted to the Fashion Summer Institute, you can look forward to days and nights full of fashion and fun.

Course Credit:

Upon successful completion of the Summer Fashion Institute, each student will earn three (3) transferable college credits for the Marist College course FASH101L, Fashion Survey.
